Religious Education

MISSION STATEMENT

Queen of Heaven Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is a faith formation program for children in levels one through eight.
Following the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Church we have,

as the purpose of our Religious Education Program,
to demonstrate to our students through our instruction and our actions

God’s love for them.
Our hope is to assist the parents in leading their children to
a deeper lived experience of faith in Jesus Christ and His Church.
We hope to demonstrate this:

·                  Through our common experience of Sunday worship
and celebration of the sacraments.

·                  Through our service and outreach to all God’s people.

Here at Queen of Heaven, we offer a comprehensive Religious Education program for all children in Grade Levels 1 through 8.  The goal of our formal Religious Education Program is to assist the parents, who are the primary educators of our children, in deepening their child’s spiritual development.  This goal is accomplished using many mediums including formal classroom instruction, retreats, parent meetings, and Liturgical celebrations.

Classes meet weekly from September to May and students are provided with textbooks that cover material at a grade appropriate level and build each year on the prior years knowledge.   Weekly classes are held in our Regional Catholic School , thus providing an environment that is conducive to learning.

All of our programs are staffed with volunteer catechists who instruct the children and training for all catechists is provided throughout the year.  Becoming a catechist is a wonderful opportunity to share your faith journey with our children.  If you would like more information on how you can make a difference in our parish community, contact Kathy Isherwood in the parish office at 429-3334 x111.

Liturgy of the Word for Children

Each Sunday during the 9:30AM Liturgy young people of kindergarten age through grade four, participate in what is known as Children’s Liturgy of the Word.  This is a celebration of the Sunday readings in a setting and language more appropriate to the understanding of young children. The children then return after the Preparation of the Gifts procession and participate in the rest of the liturgy with their families.

ALL ARE WELCOME!  Training is available for those who would like to help.  Call Kathy Isherwood in the Religious Education Office at 429-3334 ext. 111.
